ORLANDO — In this video from the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting, Stephen J. Kim, MD, discusses the toxicity of drugs such as Plaquenil.
“In this modern day, we should never be seeing patients who lose vision from Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine sulfate, Sanofi) use,” Kim, professor of ophthalmology at Vanderbilt Eye Institute, told Healio.
He also discussed the impact of checkpoint inhibitors.
These drugs “can be highly effective, but they have side effects that are increasingly recognized,” Kim said, noting that they can cause uveitis, orbital inflammation and retinal inflammation.
